Calling all Austen fans! This irresistable novel transposes Pride and Prejudice into the little-known world of Orthodox Jewish Brooklyn, with its unique dating protocols and wish lists. Join the Bennet sisters as they must overcome apathetic matchmakers, straitened financial circumstances, a socially inappropriate mother and passive father as they finally make their way to the chuppah. Funny, incisive, and heartwarming, this lighthearted romance will captivate Austen fans as well as those who simply seek an entertaining read or a glimpse into the world of Orthodox singles. (260 pp)
Barbara Bensoussan has been a journalist for Jewish newspapers and magazines for over 25 years, and received two Simon Rockower Awards for her work. She has edited and ghostwritten numerous books and memoirs, but her most satisfying--and creatively challenging--work has been her novels and culinary memoir.
She lives in Brooklyn with her husband, Ariel, in a not-very-empty nest, as most of their children and grandchildren live nearby and show up frequently to make sure she abandons her computer on a regular basis. When not writing, or lost in a good read, you can probably find her in the kitchen turning out homemade challah or Moroccan specialties.
